Hmmmm... I wonder if the Ida bomb threat mentioned in the thread below was an aborted attempt or dry run for these "Hillbilly Heroin" bozos?!?

Three pharmacy robbery suspects arrested
www.monroenews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090217/BREAKINGNEWS/102179968
Three men suspected of trying to rob a pharmacy of painkilling pills this morning were arrested this afternoon when they allegedly attempted a similar act in Ida.
The robbers escaped a police dragnet this morning after an unsuccessful attempt to rob the Professional Village Pharmacy on N. Monroe St. just north of Stewart Rd.
Robbers walked in around 10 a.m. and handed the pharmacist a note that demanded Oxycontin.
They fled without obtaining any of the drugs and disappeared in the surrounding area. A third person was in a getaway car parked at a car wash nearby.
Hollywood and Christiancy Elementary Schools, the Cantrick Learning Center, the Monroe Public Schools Administration Building and Zion Lutheran School kept everyone inside shortly after the robbery but the lockdown was lifted about 15 minutes later.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office reported three men later were in process of attempting a similar robbery at the Professional Village Pharmacy on Lewis Ave. in Ida.
Detective Sgt. Heath Velliquette said a phone call was made to the pharmacy allegedly by the suspects, but the robbery was foiled.
Three men, ages 25, 27 and 28, were arrested shortly after 2 p.m.
Sgt. Velliquette said the suspects were armed with a pellet gun. The three, one each from Ida, Luna Pier and Toledo, are being held in the county jail.
Police also believe the three were involved with a phoned-in bomb threat against St. Mary Catholic Central High School. A call was made to Monroe County Central Dispatch and threats were made. It was an apparent attempt as a diversion, authorities said.

WOW!! I cannot believe that there are people on here actually defending these people! There is no excuse for robbing a pharmacy because you chose to take prescription meds and get addicted! Nobody, especially your physcian is forcing you to take these meds! As an adult, you are in control of your actions and especially what goes into your body. I certainly would not be defending one of my friends or family if they pulled one of these stunts. I would suggest that they get some help and stop foaming at the mouth for oxys!!
Also, if you are in desperate need of money, which most of us are, GET A JOB! Yes, there are not many great paying jobs out there but if you search hard enough you can find a way to make an honest living and not put people in harms way!

I honelsty can't believe you people are defending these guys!!! Notice the people who are defending are Recovering from pill addictions. The funny part about this is that not 1 person did it but 3 and then attempted a second Pharmacy and still go nothing, talk about a crappy day on their part. Remember about 4-5 years ago when all the Pharmacys were getting robbed at gunpoint and what did they do they stopped keeping Narcotics on had that is a no brainer. I feel bad for the Pharmacys that they have to keep losing money and drugs because people can't afford their drug of choice. I know a lot of people who have had a problem or still do and will not addmit it. I have seen people go through withdraws for days or weeks just to get somewhat clean, then go right back to it because they can't handle the withdraws or just don't want it bad enough. So don't sit here and defend these guys you just make your self look stuip. If a drunk driver killed your family member would you defend them? They commited a crime just like this. Yes it was a pellet gun, but guess what that is still a weapon and "armed robbery". So they got caught and that is the end of it, bad choice on there part hopefully they will have better planning on the next one.

I doubt that these men in thier 20s got hooked on oxcys from a doctor they started taking them on thier own to get high and they got addicted poor them! now they cant have jobs (cant pass drug test) so they steal to provide thier habit. poor them. They should all get 10 plus years to get over thier addictions in Jail not rehab. rehab is for people wanting help not needing it.
and to say that the addiction caused them to try and rob 2 pharmacys in the same week is just making excuses for the idiots. and how does anyone know thier motives.
Streetwise know that oxcys cost $80 per pill for the strong ones and $40 for the mid range . So was it money or ther drugs you alll decide Id say both.

I am so sorry that a lot of you cannot show a little sympathy! You have no idea what these men have gone through or why they were taking drugs in the first place. Let's first correct some thing THERE WAS NO HOSTIGE SITUATION!
I am friends with one of these guys...and I know for a fact that a Dr. got him hooked! so what do you say about that??? He was only 18 when his Dr first started giving him addictive rx drugs and he legitamately thought he needed them. From there he went down hill. So my bottom line is this: Yes my friend should be held accountable he did something he shouldn't have and there is no excuse. The Dr should also be held accountable for giving him such strong medication, there is no reason he should be on oxci cotin, when codiene was just fine, and there are painkillers Dr can order that aren't addictive. Thirdly, you self-righteous inconsiderate people should be more careful what you say! One day you could be reading about your son brother father or friend and what people have to say about them.

Well listen to this, THERE IS REHAB!!!! DID THEY ASK FOR HELP? DID THEY GO TO SOMEONE AND SAY " I NEED HELP? DID THEY SAY, "MY MOM AND DAD NEVER PAID ANY ATTENTION TO ME SO I BECAME A DRUG ABUSER!!!. Yea Right! Theses people said, 'Well, no ones going to help me so I'm going to get a gun, (FELONY) and I'm going to rob a Pharmacy, (FELONY). They committed A CRIME, PEOPLE!!! Move out of the country if you can't follow the rules, or go directly to PRISON. Jail is too good for these neglected souls of life. 20 years in prison should do the trick. Finally I believe the only chance we have of helping this community would be to put addicts into treatment facilities than jail..Maybe some jail time but not alot..they need the help the guidance the advice which they don't get in jail all they get in jail is how to work out make fire and more advice on how to do illegal stuff..I hope someone who has the means to do this: I believe NA(Narcotics Anonymous) is the best and most effective way to stay sober thats how many people do it they attend NA meetings when they feel the urge to use go to a meeting and it suppresses that urge..Myself i would love it if i could find a good NA not AA(Alcoholics Anonymous) where younger people go to get help,AA meetings are mostly older people who don't relate to drug addicts we need people who relate and know exactly what we are going thru...NA would be a big inspiration and make a lot of us feel good and proud to be sober and getting a 30 day clean key chain is just the best feeling ever like you accomplished a huge obstacle. SO please if any one reads this and can do something about it open a whole bunch of NA meeting places for every hour of the day b/c people get urges at 3 in the morning and they need somewhere to go..I think that would clean up monroe county so much...but there will always be drug addicts the lost causes and for those people all thats left for them is jail institutions and death (NA saying). It would give me and the other people who are serious about their sobriety. I hope this helped the clueless people about drug addicts help understand that they need help not jail.. To the people in jail rite now for what they did I feel for you and i pray that you have the strength and determination to get through this horrible addiction..You made a dumb mistake we all do your going to have to pay for it..Karma sucks...so good luck to you i hope you get the help you need I'll pray for you thats all we can do now..stay strong and keep your head up if you want it things will only get better.

I don't care if they were high...I don't care if they were drunk...I don't care if they were stupid...I don't care if they have a PHD...They committed robbery and should be held accountable for such. If they end up being incarcerated for their crime, hopefully a judge will require appropriate treatment for problems they have- IF it might prevent a repeat offense.

so the poor guys didnt do anything wrong it was the withdrawing from drugs that made them do it, it is always somthing or someone else's fault, it is never the person or persons fault that do it. im sick and tired of people not taking responsability for their actions. these people chose to do the drugs, they chose to rob and take a hostage, they chosee to call in a bomb threat (allegedly}, they chose to go to another pharmacy and attempt to rob that one. all it would have taken was to have a child or two or even a teacher to panic and who knows what would have happened. I know lets make the court systme rehabilitate them because that really works well when one is forced to. I dont feel that there are very many cases of people being completly rehabilitated when it is court ordered. I have relatives that have been in that situation and ive seen that it doesnt work until that person is ready to make it work. we have all heard and seen persons tht get ordered to A.A; consequently, alot have people drink on their way their, the have the formulas worked out on how much they can drink and when to stop drinking the night before they have to "blow" do i feel sorry for the relatives of mine that have gone through this with drugs and alcohol, not one bit! the programs didnt work until they were ready! ! ! ! SO, NO I DONT THINK OUR KINDLER GENTLER SOCIETY SHOULD HAVE A SOFT COMPASSIONET HEART FOR THESE DRUG USERS. WE NEED TO QUIT FEELING SORRY FOR PEOPLE WHO COMMIT THESE CRIMES. Think of the person who was being held hostage....wht if it were YOU

FOR THE PEOPLE WHO SAY GOOD WORK MONROE COUNTY POLICE...you must have never been picked up by them..ya these people went into a pharmacy and tryed to get some pills but they didn't hurt anyone i would completely understand if they shot someone or took someone hostage..i mean they did all this and they didn't even get the pills..i feel bad for them b/c i like them used to be addicted to oxy contins and i know exactly wat they are going through they used every ounce of energy they had left to try and get there fix and it didn't work..They were probably withdrawing and thought of this plan to get stuff that would last them a long time..For people who say that is no excuse i want you to go through and hour of withdrawal and you tell me thats no excuse cuz i bet my life you will change you mind...well it didn't work and your right they are going to throw them in with all the other inmates that have either drug related charges or robbery or murder and ALL they r going to do is tell their war stories to one another i've been there and i promise thats all that happens and all they are going to do is sit there and think of d**n i can't wait to get out so i can get high again..I believe that yes they should have SOME jail time but they need treatment too..thats the most important b/c if they r struggling that bad they have to be sick of the lifestyle and they may actually use rehab as a tool to get clean and stay clean unlike jail would only make it worse not to mention that you can find drugs in the monroe county jail and prison..So think people what you are saying something should be done for the drug addicts not the actual criminals..b/c a lot of the drug addicts I know deep down are really good people(Better than the people who think they r better than us b/c they never touched a drug) they just got problems that they don't want to face and get high to take the pain away from everyday life..Like for me for instance I think I'm a great person but on drugs bad person don't mean it but the drugs ruled my life..they need things to be taken away to realize they really have a drug problem like family loved ones children and if they still don't change they are the lost causes sorry but they are you got to forget about them or they will only hurt you while they are high as hell feeling soo good..

Watching the video of the pharmacy robbery in Florida, shows "just the right amount" of justice for these scumbags. That robber will never rob anyone again, nor will he convince fellow jailmates to follow in his footsteps.
I for one am sick and tired of my hard earned dollars going to social programs to "help" these "poor misguided" individuals.

I agree with you concern. No help is given in the Monroe county Jail. Inmates are left sitting in there with people just like them. It is a place to hang out to many due to having their "crowd" in there for similar reasons. I can imagine them high fiving each other and what not comparing stories of how the judicial system "did them wrong" I think finding and attacking the underlying problem is most important.

I disagree...........they should be charged...but instead of calling them scum bags and saying throw the book at them....people with addictions dont need jail.....they need help from us there fellow people in the comunitty....they should be sent to a rehab for a year instead of jail......they need help......you all really expect them to get it in the Monroe County Jail....granted i dont agree with what they have done ....but i also dont agree with the way people that need help with addictions get treated........they are brothers,uncles,dads,nephews..........would you guys want your families locked up in prison to just get out and be worse or would you actually want them to get some REAL help..........Get a grip monroe the problem is only getting worse so why dont We as a community try and do something to HELP...

Most of people in Monroe are strong out on precrption drugs, most people just don't notice or people like me know about it and just don't care.

These men obviously have a serious drug problem. The court system needs to punish them for their crimes. How dare they put innocent citizens in harms way!!! An addiction is not an excuse for acting in such a manner. Hopefully a lengthy prison sentence will help them to change their ways and maybe send a message to other addicts to seek help before turning to such drastic measures.

Reading this article, things were left out. I was waiting for a patient at the MMH Rehabilitation Center this morning when we heard the helicoptors flying over and saw police outside of the building. I heard the staff being told to go out front and sit and don't let anyone come in. Why would a staff member have to sit in a waiting room and check people coming in. What are they going to do if a man comes in with a gun? Ask them to see an ID? Why wasnt the doors locked like I heard them talking about the other buildings next door were. It was more than a half hour before any security came to see what was going on and he didn't even lock the doors. A family member of mine works 2 doors down and THEIR BOSS came out and locked the door for them and made sure all the other doors are locked. The patient I drove, and myself, did not feel safe with an open door, police with bulletproof vests on, guns drawn, right outside and feeling like there were people not capable of handling a situation who were in charge. What a dangerous decision by supervision. Boo for MMH.

You must be blinded by your own perfect world. Look around though, people have problems that sometimes you can't understand. I'm not condoning what was done but unless you know the whole story or are God, shut up.

Were Ida schools locked down? If not, why? Aren't the kids in Ida as important as the kids in Monroe?

How you would feel if you were the pharmacist with the gun in your face? How you would feel if you were the kid at school on lockdown? These people commited a CRIME! They deserve every punishment possible. What's wrong with getting an education and a job? LOSERS!

why would you rob a pharmacy i mean why would you want medicine?
-- Posted by mo on Wed, Feb 18, 2009, 8:46 am EST [report this comment]
Had they attempted to rob a bank they would go to jail for attempted robbery. Drug addicts or not they made a stupid choice and now have to deal with the consequences. Yes, withdrawls are terrible, yes, they need rehab. I need money, I just lost a job, but I am not going to go rob a bank!! Same difference.

These people commiting these crimes are the same kids that never got a spanking from their parents, and these are the people that when they were kids, and did something wrong, the parents always said, " NOT MY BOY, MY BOY WOULD NEVER DO THAT" Now its time to pay!! Time for prison.

I was a police officer for 30 years. You say these poor souls need rehab? You say that theres no rehab in jail? you say that theres "NO REHAB" at all for these poor, sad, misfits of society? GOOD JOB TO THE SHERIFF"S OFFICE!!!

None of you realize what withdraws are like without going thru it yourselves. It's not something you can be told about and fully understand. Withdraws can kill you! Literally!!!
75% of all "pillheads" get started by doctors!!! Remember that people or should I say hypacrites!!!

I said THEY DIDN"T HOLD PEOPLE HOSTAGE...YOU DON"T UNDERSTAND AT ALL DO YOU...THEY SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR ACTIONS..BUT WHAT YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND IS THAT THEY ONLY DID IT BECAUSE THEY ARE ADDICTED TO DRUGS..NO ONE UNDERSTANDS...I SAID YES THEY SHOULD GET TIME IN JAIL BUT THEY NEED TREATMENT IF YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT DRUG ADDICTIONS DON'T ACT LIKE YOU DO AND ACT LIKE YOU KNOW WHAT THEY NEED B/C YOU DON'T...I THINK THEY NEED TIME IN JAIL AND TREATMENT..THEY DIDN'T HURT ANYONE THEY HAD A PELLET GUN THEY NEVER HELD ANYONE HOSTAGE..YOU MISUNDERSTOOD WAT I WAS SAYING..I WROTE THIS SPECIFICALLY FOR PEOPLE WHO DON'T UNDERSTAND ADDICTIONS...I AM NOT AT ALL SAYING WHAT THEY DID WAS RIGHT B/C BY ALL MEANS IT WAS WRONG YOU JUST THINK THAT THEY SHOULD BE THROWN IN JAIL AND THATS IT WELL WHEN THEY GET OUT YOU KNOW WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO DO?? GO STRAIGHT BACK TO THE DRUGS B/C THEY GOT NO HELP! THEY NEED TREATMENT!!! AND YESS I BELIEVE SOME JAIL TIME BUT MOST OF ALL TREATMENT WOULD HELP FIX THEIR UNDERLYING PROBLEM NOT JAIL..SO WHEN THEY GET OUT THEY HAVE A CHANCE OF BEING A GOOD CITIZEN IN THIS COMMUNITY..AND I ALSO SAID IF IT DOESN'T WORK THEY ARE LOST CAUSES B/C THEY HAVE TO WANT IT BUT THEY SHOULD GET THE RITE PUNISHMENT SO YES IF THEY GET OUT AND MESS UP AGAIN YES THROW THE BOOK AT THEM BUT THIS IS ONE OF THEMS FIRST BIG CRIME AND HE DESERVES A SECOND CHANCE A CHANCE TO TRY AND GET BETTER AND HE NEEDS TO BE PUNISHED FOR WHAT HE DID..SORRY YOU MISUNDERSTOOD ME

Hi I have lived in Monroe all my life and I am close to these peoples age, does this suprise you because this is kinda normal for these people they most be out of money and going for the extreme.
