WHO are we?..."MARCHING BAND!" What a great time and lesson of not only how to make music and get along with others, but to be disciplined not to move when you weren't supposed to and to move when you were...and get those knees up! (IN the true tradition of U of M marching spirit). Good 'ole Ida HIGH was very lucky to have had 2 great (and many different subs who M.K would always trade his tuba for a flute on sub days!) talented, enthusiastic, dedicated band directors. Who could ever forget all the antics at band camp!(C.F. and her snipe hunting. M.L. as Rosanne Rosanna Danna, and T. rolling backward with the bass drum when we had to march backwards! So many wonderful, hilarious memories.....) and our trip to FLORIDA?!( and all the other trips as the Concerts and Symphony Bands...to Europe! We love you Conrad!...) Students today should embrace the opportunity to be in the band and have fun playing notes and enjoying the camraderie of being in the Marching Band, and other bands. I can still hear Mr. Thompson introducing the "IDA HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND" under the Friday night lights. Here's to Mr. Whitehead for keeping the tradition of the ALUMNI BAND alive...I do regret that I have never come back to do it, life kind of got in the way with work, etc....but thanks for all you have done and continue to do. GO BLUESTREAKS! Don't want to have to march "extra yards!!!!" any more pleasant band memories?!?!??

I attended one year of band camp up at Wolverine in '77. I have prettty good memories from that one stint, although being freshmen we were up in the separate house on the hill, and I never had the chance to harass any underclassmen.
While it can't be described as a "pleasant" memory, I *do* distinctively remember being outside near an open window by the camp kitchen where a radio was playing. As I'm putting my tray/plates on a table I hear on the news that "... the "King" was gone. Elvis Presley had died!
I remember the car ride home from Ida when we got back, and nearly EVERY channel had Elvis' music playing.
Funny, the things we remember, eh?
