CLINTON - Ida rang up almost 500 yards of offense Thursday night, but the Blue Streaks needed every bit of it to outgun Clinton in a wild 35-33 battle.
Lyle Pavuk rushed for 229 yards and four TDs as Ida had 457 yards on the ground and 496 overall. Clinton finished with 418 yards as Spencer Krauss passed for 187 and a pair of scores.
"We led all the way. Every time Clinton came back and scored, we answered,'' Ida coach Tom Walentowski said.
Pavuk did his damage on 24 carries. He had 3, 51, 1 and 4-yard scoring runs and Nic Jobe added a 24-yard scamper. Jared Locke booted all five conversions.
"Pavuk did a great job. He kept his feet and on the 51-yard touchdown, he bounced off people like a ping-pong ball,'' Walentowski said.
Ida's line did an outstanding job, especially guard Zach VanderVlucht. He was flanked by Curt Connor at guard, Grant Heller at center, Chris Cangealose and Matt Mintz at tackle and Jared Locke at tight end.
Jobe led the defense with nine tackles. Connor had eight and Colton Kloster broke up two passes.
Ryan Locke came up with some big hits to deny Clinton's final bid after the Redskins had closed within 35-33 and were making a final bid.
"It was a great win. Obviously, we've got some things to fix after giving up 418 yards, but it's a lot more fun to fix them when you're 2-0,'' Walentowski said.
