BOYS: Ida wins physical battle with Monroe www.monroenews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20081217/SPORTS/112174167IDA - Ida basketball coach Mike Albring said the battle with Monroe Tuesday night was "physical, Big Ten physical." The teams went to the foul line a combined 62 times. Ida adjusted to the physical play in the second half and beat the Trojans 71-60. Ida won the game in the third quarter by outscoring its guests 26-11. The game had been knotted 10-10 at the first-quarter mark and 23-23 at halftime. "We put on our pads and picked up the heat a little bit, played better defense and showed some energy (in the second half)," Albring said. "What got us going is we adjusted to the physical play. It was a scrappy game. Monroe kept coming back at us." Nic Jobe paced the 3-0 Blue Streaks with 20 points. Jared Janssen added 16 points and was 7-for-8 from the line. Dustin Sielski (12 points) and Jared Locke (10) also hit double figures for Ida. Willie Johnson paced Monroe with 19 points and Chaz Cochran scored 12. Ida outscored the Trojans 26-10 at the line, shooting 68 percent on free throws compared to Monroe's 42 percent. Blaine Whitlow had 20 points and Nick Masserant 13 as Monroe won the JV game 63-55. Robby Kindred scored 10 for Ida.
