Marlin I. (Skip) Bliss Jan. 2, 1922-Dec. 20, 2008
Marlin I. "Skip" Bliss, 86 years, of Ida, died at his residence Saturday morning. Friends may call at the Capaul Funeral Home Sunday from 7-9 PM and Monday from 2-8 PM. Services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday at Capaul Funeral Home, Ida. Rev. Victor Holtz of Monroe Vineyard Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Lulu Cemetery with Military Honors under auspices of Lynn C. Weeman Post 514, American Legion.
Born January 2, 1922, he was the son of George F. and Mary M. (Teeters) Bliss.
Skip married Betty Jean Holtz April 18, 1945 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ida. He served with the U.S. Army from March, 1944, to May, 1946, seeing action in the European Theater of War, receiving the American Campaign Medal, EAME Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and a Purple Heart for wounds received near Aachen, Germany. Marlin retired in 1987 after 20 years with the Ford Motor Co, and had owned and operated the Bliss Nursery and Tree Farm for over 50 years. Skip was a life member of the Lynn C. Weeman Post 514, American Legion, Ida, and was a member of the Ann Arbor Farmers Market for over 70 years.
Survivors include: his wife of 63 years, Betty; a son, David (Dianne), of Petersburg; a daughter, Jean (Earl) Horn, of Ida; eleven grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Gary, and four brothers.
