Girls Basketball: Ida faces tough challenge

The Ida girls basketball team has a lot to play for in the final week of the regular season.
The Blue Streaks will try to grab a share of their ninth Lenawee County Athletic Association title in the past 10 years when they host Clinton Tuesday.
Then, Monroe County bragging rights will be on the line Thursday night when they visit St. Mary Catholic Central.
The question for Ida coach Tim Leonard is how many girls will be healthy enough to face those challenges.
Ida had just eight players available for Thursday's game against Onsted and one of those was ill.
Four of the five starters have missed games this season because of illness and Amanda O'Rourke has been out the entire season because of injury.
"I've never seen a year like this," Leonard said.
Hudson has finished its LCAA schedule with a 10-2 record. Ida can tie for the title if it can beat Clinton.
"We beat them in overtime last time," Leonard said. "We'll have to see how many people we have back. We are awfully thin."
Leonard hopes that starting shooting guard Rachel Sepesy and backup point guard Stephanie Horney will be able to play.
After that, the Blue Streaks must get ready for the run-and-gun style of SMCC.
"You see anything pressure-wise against them that you will see in the District," Leonard said. "The thing you want to be against them is healthy and deep. Right now, we're neither."
SMCC will bring a 16-3 record and a 13-game winning streak into the contest.
"That game is always a good tuneup for both teams heading into the District," SMCC coach Jon LaBeau said.
